When I first got my Golden puppy his fur was very soft, It then began to have white hairs mixed with it. Today he is almost 5 months old and his fur is dark golden but it is very course and no longer soft… is this normal?
Yes! He is shedding his puppy fur and getting his adolesent fur he is doing it a bit early usually they dont shed their puppy fur for another 2 months. Once he gets this fur in he will have it until about a years old then he will shed it again then his adult coat will start to come in. You will not see his true adult coat until almost 18 months to 2 years old!
Have fun with your Golden!

Sounds like he inherited his coat from one of his parents. My golden is soft but so were his parents

Totally normal, depending on his lineage. Some lines of goldens are silkier and softer (my in-laws have such a golden) and some are more course (one of my goldens is courser than the other, and they are brother and sister so there appears to be a great variation, even within the same blood-lines).
