How to keep my golden retriever from getting food like bread from the table?

My mom has a golden retriever who is about 2 yrs old and she also has a yellow lab about 6 yrs old and they both like to jump up to the table and counters and get what ever food is up there even loafs of bread in the plastic. i can't put tape on the edges as she has little kids and grand babies that are always there and they only do it when no one is in the room so we can't spray them with bottle water when they do. anyone know any suggestions? thanks.
Can not afford the classes which is why i am trying to do this my self as i have 2 dogs that do it. thanks though

Dog's behavior are set with the training that we give them. We can't just expect them to be the best they can be without us teaching them. Same principle in molding a child.

Anyway, here are two links that talks about dogs and table scraps/table manners. I hope they can give you some ideas on how to train our dog to behave and how to avoid getting on the table. good luck!

Have you tried training?
I hear it works well.

I had an Aussie that did the same thing. I would put the food that is on the surfaces they can get to elsewhere. Then she started getting into the kitchen garbage can so I found a tip somewhere you set several mouse traps where the dogs should not be and when they touch the trap it snaps closed (scaring the living bejesus out of them). Doesn't usually snap down on them. I have recently seen a product that basically uses the same concept but it has an additional flap to make sure it doesn't snap the dog. Fosters & Smith… maybe?

:O DO NOT USE MOUSE TRAPS!! Honestly what if their toe got caught in one?!!!! UHG! Keep her out of the room when you eat. Might need to take her to a training course to learn the "leave it" command.
