Should we adopt a boy or girl golden? What's the best age?

Get a girl, puppy. Cause any older, there impossible to train, and sometimes mean to new people. Stick with a baby, boys are just trouble.

Goldens are smart, somewhat disloyal and drool a lot. Sort of like having another guy around. If you get them as a puppy, WARNING ;They go through several "teenage" stages where they get defiant all over again. They reason things out and it is often their undoing as they try to second guess what you know is best for them (Sort of like man as well). A rescue is going to know the temperament of the dog and can guide you to a suitable dog for you. Because they are disloyal (In that they like anyone else as much as you), they will blend easily into your family. They are very loyal when it comes to loving whoever they are with.

You will want a dog that fits in best with your family, be it male or female. Females can be just as dominant or aggressive as males, so I suggest finding out more about the dogs in which they have at the shelter. Introduce them to your family members, and get the one that "clicks".

And good for you for going to a rescue group instead of a breeder!

I've had this kind of dog in the past, he was very hyper all the time and dug up the garden and everything.
My cousins have the same breed of dog, but theirs are girls and they are much calmer and better behaved.
This is probably because they were better trained and probably given more attention.
I think that either gender will have it's advantages and disadvantages, the important thing is that you make sure you have the time to spend with the animal.
I would get either a puppy or a young dog, they are easier to train.

I always tend to think that females are much more gentle and loving, easier to take care of than males, that's just my personal preference. I'd stick with the age range of 3-5. Good luck!!

Females make the best family pets, especially with kids. They are less aggressive, more patient, calmer, and have less desire to roam. The best pet is one that has been spayed or neutered. Females in heat (any breed) can be irritable, just like human females, lol. Unaltered males have only one thing on their minds. The earlier they are fixed, the better.
Age depends on what you want. If you want a dog that is already house trained and used to living with a family, get one at least a year old, or older. The older the dog, generally the calmer and more social it will be. Goldens aren't considered adults until they are 2. I would choose a dog between 1 and 5. After age 7 or so, they begin to enter their senior years and can start to slow down a little, just like people. They typically live to around age 14, but can live to be considerably older with good quality vet care. Make sure you want this pet in your life that many years before adopting.
If you want a puppy, be prepared. You'll have to house train her, socialize her, possibly pay for spaying, vaccinations, obedience training, etc. Training a puppy to be a good pet is a challenging undertaking. I'd choose an adult dog.
If you want a Golden, be prepared fot the amount of grooming required! They really need to be brushed daily, or nearly daily. The coats are very thick and dense, it's not easy to get down to the undercoat. They were originally bred to be water dogs, so water doesn't easily penetrate to the skin, making bathing them a challenge, especially around the neck and chest area. They also shed.
If you can commit to the care and grooming required, it's hard to find a better family dog than a Golden. They're sweet dispositions and even temperament have made them a family favorite for ages.
If you want an easier to care for option, consider a Lab.They're similar, with a short coat. Easier to deal with grooming. However, I personally love Goldens myself.

I'd say get a 1 1/2 or 2 year old Golden. The gender is up too you, which ever you would prefer. I'd say the males are easier, but totally your choice! And that age will be good for your kids too! Hope I helped
